Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931 - 11 January
2015) was an Swedish actress, who was active in American and European films,
famous for her beautiful and stunning silhouette. Her performance as Sylvia, in
Federico Fellini's 1960 film La Dolce Vita (1960) was a hit and made her
famous. Ekberg performed her work mainly in Italy and became permanent
residence in 1964.Anita Ekberg was born on 29 September 1931 in (Sweden) and
was the sixth of eight children. As a teenager, Anita worked as a fashion
model. Ekberg participated in the Miss Malmo competition in 1950 at her
mother's urging. It resulted in her winning the Miss Sweden contest. Despite
speaking little English Ekberg traveled to America to compete for the Miss
Universe 1951 title. It was an official pageant in the year 1951. The pageant
became official in 1952. While Ekberg was not crowned the Miss Universe
pageant, as one of the six finalists she was able to sign a starlet's contract
with Universal Studios. She was an Universal starlet and received lessons in
dramatization and elocution dancing horses, horseback riding and elocution. She
was briefly featured in The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello go
to Mars (1953), Take Me to Town (1953) as well as The Golden Blade (53).
